Produced as an extension of the successful Living the Murrow Legacy videos shot in 2006, this project was designed to promote the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication as a world-class institution to learn the craft of communication. This series of videos was thus produced under the theme of With a Degree from the Murrow School you can go Anywhere! Over the course of 10 days Kate Yeager (’07 Broadcast News) and I traveled to Seattle and then to Los Angeles to interview a number of Murrow alumni working in media. We spoke with them about their WSU experiences, career path, and advice for future students / industry professionals. For this project I acted a the Director and PR Coordinator, including all camera work, lighting, editing and technical coordination.
Live Blog
In addition to the final videos being prepared for the Murrow website and future promotional videos, we maintained a “live-blog” chronicling the road trip, interviews, and adventures along the way. This website (http://www.murrow-blog.com) was very successful with over 5,000 page hits and over 2,000 views of the videos over the 30 day promotional period. Based on the WordPress blogging platform I was able to customize this site under the WSU Identity and provide archives, commenting tools and embedded videos. Additionally we published a video podcast of our trip which is available on the iTunes Music Store as well as several other podcast directories.
Press Releases / News Articles
I was able to coordinate several news articles and press releases promoting the trip. Several of the stories and news releases are linked below:
2007 Murrow Symposium honoring Frontline
Last night was the 2007 Edward R. Murrow Symposium honoring Frontline and Executive Producer David Fanning. Over the past few days I’ve had the privilege to share a meal and conversation with this legendary journalist and have to say that he is truly one of the most brilliant filmmakers of our age. His speech was truly inspiring! Check it out online:
Murrow Alumni Interviews
Watch the rest of the videos below…
This series of interviews was conducted under the theme of “Living the Murrow Legacy” and involved talking with a number of WSU alumni who are now working in the media (TV, Radio, Newspaper, Internet, Public Relations, etc). For this project, I designed the flash based web player which displays the videos as well as shot and edited many of the actual interviews.
Murrow Studio A Redesign
During the 2005-2006 academic year I lead pre-design work for a renovation of Cable 8 Productions Studio A at Washington State University. Working with a industry leading system integrator (Diversified Systems) and WSU Facilities Operations we developed a plan to transform our student production studio from out-of-date analog systems to state-of-the-art HD cameras, graphics and productions equipment. Additionally the renovation addressed numerous safety and ADA issues.
With an estimated project cost of $2.4 million dollars the studio is currently waiting on budgetary approval from the WSU Student Government.

Video Underground 2907
This episode of Video Underground was the final show of the 29th season. It featured a performance by the band Apitomee as well as a updated graphics package. For this episode I edited the final show (including cutting together multiple takes of the live performance), designed and implemented the new graphics package and assisted with lighting and setup activities.
