Connected Magazine

This 24 page magazine was designed for the Washington State University “Back to School” rush. Over 7,000 copies were distributed to incoming students to help with the process of getting their computers connected to the WSU network and well as provide information about the various products and services offered by Student Computing Services. For this project I acted as Editor and Lead Designer, as well as wrote all of the setup instructions and internal advertisements.

Watch the rest of the videos at: http://www.murrow-blog.com

Produced as an extension of the successful Living the Murrow Legacy videos shot in 2006, this project was designed to promote the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication as a world-class institution to learn the craft of communication. This series of videos was thus produced under the theme of With a Degree from the Murrow School you can go Anywhere! Over the course of 10 days Kate Yeager (’07 Broadcast News) and I traveled to Seattle and then to Los Angeles to interview a number of Murrow alumni working in media. We spoke with them about their WSU experiences, career path, and advice for future students / industry professionals. For this project I acted a the Director and PR Coordinator, including all camera work, lighting, editing and technical coordination.

Live Blog

Murrow-Blog.comIn addition to the final videos being prepared for the Murrow website and future promotional videos, we maintained a “live-blog” chronicling the road trip, interviews, and adventures along the way. This website (http://www.murrow-blog.com) was very successful with over 5,000 page hits and over 2,000 views of the videos over the 30 day promotional period. Based on the WordPress blogging platform I was able to customize this site under the WSU Identity and provide archives, commenting tools and embedded videos. Additionally we published a video podcast of our trip which is available on the iTunes Music Store as well as several other podcast directories.

Press Releases / News Articles

I was able to coordinate several news articles and press releases promoting the trip. Several of the stories and news releases are linked below:

President Rawlins Tribute

This video was prepared for Washington State University President V. Lane Rawlins retirement party, sponsored by the WSU Foundation. After his seven years of groundbreaking service, the foundation wanted to honor him and in particular one of the programs where he made such a difference… The Cougar Marching Band. During his tenure, President Rawlins helped the band more than double in size and become one most successful programs in the northwest. The video was played in connection with several live elements including the official marching band announcer reading along and several band members playing the cougar fight song. In addition to the retirement party, President Rawlins and several top donors, fundraiser, and staff were presented with a keepsake version of the video with custom case, labels, and menus. Working with the foundation and staff from the communications department, I completed all technical aspects of this project, including, shooting the interviews, editing the video, preparing the DVD menus, and designing all packaging.

WSU Student Testimonials

Testimonials - rightThis series of recruitment videos was designed act as an initial contact to high achieving prospective students who might not be considering WSU a one of their college options. These targeted videos were e-mailed to approximately 150,000 high school students based on their field of interest. Working with WSU’s Office of Marketing Communications I taped each of the interviews, edited them down to about one minute each, and provided support as they were encoded in Flash Video.

Murrow Alumni Interviews

Alumni - ThumbThis series of interviews was conducted under the theme of “Living the Murrow Legacy” and involved talking with a number of WSU alumni who are now working in the media (TV, Radio, Newspaper, Internet, Public Relations, etc). For this project, I designed the flash based web player which displays the videos as well as shot and edited many of the actual interviews.
