We had six nominations overall this year, bringing our Emmy tally to three wins and fourteen nominations in just the past three years.

“The Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Digital Experience”
“Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” debuted on NBC in March, but first it launched on NBC.com in December, no surprise for the most connected show in late night. Jimmy often has his sketches start on-air and then continue online, or he’ll solicit questions on the site for an on-air interview, or ask fans to submit material online that will later become an on-air sketch. The Late Night site is as much a part of the show as the monologue! And with three bloggers posting daily original content, Late Night on NBC.com entertains loyal users while setting the standard for a television program in the digital world.

The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien premiered last night on NBC with Will Ferrell as the first guest and Pearl Jam as the inaugural band. The show moved into a brand new star-of-the-art studio on the Universal Studios lot in LA and is using a completely digital, tapeless workflow.

In preperation for this launch, I worked with show engineers and our Digital Delivery departnment to implement a very efficent, tapeless delivery workflow. Highlights and full episodes are speed through the systems and viral clips can be published immediatly after the show airs on the east coast when needed.

Working with NBCU’s Broadcast Technology Initiatives group, I planned, executed and provide on-going support for a significant upgrade to the xSAN based production system used to edit & process ALL of NBC.com’s video offerings. Completed over the course of a nine days, this upgrade involved a total archive/backup/restore of ALL current system data, restripeing of the xSAN volume, workstation image build & deployment, server configuration and end-to-end speed testing.

This upgrade inculded the following software packages:

  • Apple OS 10.5 Leopard (workstation & server)
  • Apple xSAN 2
  • LikeWise Enterprise (AD Integration)
  • Signiant (Accelerated Delivery Workflows)
  • Adobe Creative Suite 4
  • 25 additional pieces of production & productivity software

Addationally planning is currently underway for a major hardware overhaul and expansion including new storage, workstations, Final Cut Server, and addational backup/redundancy systems.

The site had seven nominations overall this year. This brings the grand total of Webbys awarded to NBC.com to ten in just the past three years. Among the winners announced this morning were the “Heroes” and “The Office” webisodes as well as the “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” web series and NBC Rewind, the site’s full episode player. 

As a member of the NBC.com Broadband Operations team working with the Rewind Player is a significant part of my daily workload, prepping and delivering videos to ensure the highest quality user and advertiser experience. Currently I am responsible for ALL full episodes for The Office (highlighted as part of the Webby win), Heroes, The Celebrity Apprentice, Parks and Recreation and many more.

This included a custom micro-site, streaming of the trailer and individual character clips and an extensive on-air integration.

For this campaign I lead the online video efforts, coordinating asset delivery, reformatting the video for web specifications, and overall preparation of seven high-profile clips for distribution.

Unfortunatly the site is no longer live as the campaign ended in March 2009.

This product allows viewers to download and watch HD quality full episodes of their favorite NBC’s shows anytime, anywhere, for FREE.

This launch is a major leap forward, as NBC is currently the only major broadcaster to offer almost their entire primetime lineup online in High Definition for free. 

For this launch I prepped and deployed over 100 HD episodes and helped refine & QC the final transcoding profiles.

For Superbowl XLIII, NBC.com supported the biggest broadcast in television history (151.6 milltion total viewers) with a micosite covering the flavor-of-the-event including the parties, celebrity interviews and of course the commercials!

Throughout the weeks leading up to the event and on gameday, I took the operational lead for ALL of the over 130 video clips posted to the site - including almost 70 on game day alone. This involved setting up initial asset delivery workflows, collecting and entering metadata, deploying assets in real-time on gameday and managing the presentation and organization of the content.

Additionally I coordinated the video component of our “Jumbo-Tron” experience, designed to share exclusive video clips (featuring NBC talent) shown in-stadium during the actual game.
