KLEWtv New Directions
This report and accompanying presentation was prepared for Glenn Johnson’s Broadcast Management class in the Fall of 2006. After extensive research and interviews with KLEW’s General Manager and staff, our group settled on several “New Directions” for the station to move in. These suggestions ranged from launching a new digital channel, to increasing the amount of content produced for the web, as well as a new promotional and sales campaign. For this project I was responsible for the programming department as well as a significant contribution to the general ideas and strategic direction.

Mock Professional Site (EdgeWave Compliance)
For the final project of the semester I was able to work with several other students to create a website for the fictional company EdgeWave Complaince. This company was origionally created for an English 402 group project exploring technical writing in the context of an ethics training program.
MacLife - InDesign Assignment
For this English 300 assignment, I created a cover and article design for a fictional magazine “MacLife”. These two pages utilized many functions of the application, including, gradients, vector art, high resolution photography, advanced text control and more.

Hypertext Multimedia Argument (Why Mac?)
For the second Hypertext Multimedia Argument I attempted to prove that the Mac computer is the perfect system for every college student. By exploring several design, software and other relavant features, I was able to demonstrate the superiority of the Mac platform.
Visual Argumentation Assignment
The Visual Argumentation Assignment was a fun project to complete. By integrating my passion for video, with an interesting conceptual art project, I was able to explore how new multimedia technologies can make a visual argument more persuasive.
Apotrope Brand Holy Water
Everything we buy is packaged. This packaging is not created by accident, but is the result of market research and social trends. This is of course not true across the board. As you look around you’ll notice there is a hierarchy to packaging, from the plain black & white with basic font of generic products to the bright colors and spectacular presentation of children’s toys. The different approaches to package design set standards that we can reflect upon while creating our own imagery. - Joe Stengel (DTC 332 Prof)
For this project I created: Apotrope Brand Holy Water from the original packaging of an Arrowhead bottle of water. This included modification of the logo, as well as all text and design elements.

Sound Design - Transport
This final sound project of the semester required the creation of an audio track for a soundless video shot and edited by another fine arts student. I was assigned a video created by Matt Boland in Fall, 2006 in which a student was transported to from his house on Greek Row to the Fine Arts building on campus. His vehicle of choice: a typical household stool. When creating the sound for these visuals, I attempted to consider both the atmospheric and mechanical sounds created by this transportation device.
Prepared Spaces - The Secret Garden
For this project I collaborated with Sculpture student Katie Hagara to design a prepared space which explored the concept of a secret. We decided to develop a “secret garden” through the use of my nature recordings and her centerpiece wind chime.
This project consisted of both my field recordings and appropriated sounds from The Free Sound Project.
Biographical Soundscape - Night
Designed as a “self portrait” this project utilized field recording of my apartment in Pullman, WA to construct a representation of the countless hours we spend sleeping. From the typical ambient natural noises to the more specific mechanical sounds of modern living this piece attempted to shed light on the range of sound that occurs as we sleep
Appropriated Sound - The Purpose of a Party
This first project of the semester was designed to explore the use of repetition through the patterns and textures of sound. In line with Steve Reich’s It Gonna Rain I choose an interesting piece of audio and attempted to loop it in a compelling and interesting way.
The original sound file was a 1950’s educational film chosen from the Prelinger Archives. This film was designed to teach teenagers how to plan and attend a party, including fun games to play and songs to sing.
Cougar Apple Crunch
This magazine advertisement was created for the fictional product Cougar Apple Crunch. It was originally designed as part of a Com 295 assignment and utilizes the required imagery, product branding and potential locations for purchase.
